STUDY ON THE EFFECTS AND EFFICACY OF THE DEVICE
The XTREEME CRIO TECH device uses a flat iron cooled to a temperature of -15 °C, unlike common flat irons that use high temperatures.
To study its effect and efficacy, comparative microscopic analyses were carried out using reflection optical microscopy on human hair treated in various ways (bleached, colored), as well as after the application of XTREEME products followed by treatment with the XTREEME CRIO TECH flat iron.
The analyses were conducted at the laboratories of the CNR (National Research Council) in Genoa using reflection optical microscopy with a Nikon Eclipse Ni-U microscope equipped with a 20x air objective and a 256-level grayscale camera.
Similarly for colored hair samples. The results are shown in Figure 1, which displays:

b) Colored hair: From top to bottom – untreated colored hair, colored hair treated with the Crio Rigenera flat iron, colored hair treated with XTREEME products and then with the XTREEME CRIO TECH device.
The samples analyzed consisted of hair strands placed and immobilized on microscope slides according to the following scheme:
- Bleached hair
- Bleached hair treated with the XTREEME CRIO TECH flat iron
- Bleached hair treated with XTREEME products and subsequently treated with the XTREEME CRIO TECH device
The results obtained show clear differences between the analyzed samples. In particular: in the case of bleached hair—and visibly also in colored hair—the untreated hair appears quite damaged, and even stressed in the case of bleaching. In both cases, treatment with the XTREEME CRIO TECH device significantly modifies the hair structure, making it smoother. In fact, the micrographs show how the surface of the hair appears more regular and more reflective, indicating a reduction in surface roughness due to the flattening of the previously lifted cuticle scales.
The application of XTREEME products followed by the use of the XTREEME CRIO TECH device made the treated hair even smoother and more uniform, as observed by the increased surface reflectivity and the simultaneous decrease in diffuse reflection.
It can therefore be stated that the microscopic analysis of hair treated with the device and the products specifically created for use with the XTREEME COOL KIT confirms the efficacy of the treatment in reducing the roughness of the hair surface. The effect of applying a cold flat iron appears to reduce surface roughness caused by the opening of the cuticle scales along the hair shaft, apparently due to a cryo-constriction effect, which is prolonged over time by the application of appropriate cosmetic products.
